Hi, Bob. So, tell us, what has been your career leading up to SmartCo?

I’ve enjoyed a lengthy career in the Healthcare Digital Technology marketplace and I’m proud to have a proven track record in the sale of complex IT solutions to the NHS and UK Private Health Sector. I’ve enjoyed a number of director level roles within a variety of the most well-known eHealth solution providers, gaining extensive experience along the way. I’d like to think I have a ‘consultative’ approach, focused on delivering the right solution to improve clinical, operational and financial outcomes. To summarise my professional life:

  • Qualified Radiographer and Graduate of the Chartered Institute of Marketing with extensive sales experience gained over more than 32 years in the Healthcare IT industry
  • Skilled communicator, both verbally and in writing, with the ability to undertake complex negotiations at NHS Executive, Hospital (Trust) Board and Senior Management level
  • Management of sales teams dedicated to the Healthcare IT marketplace
  • Experienced in undertaking the responsibilities of generating new business and Key Account Management

What is your new role and what are the key responsibilities?

There’s a well publicised set of significant challenges facing the NHS today and SmartCo are in a position in the digital health space to meet the associated resourcing challenge. We have the experience and people to provide the expertise and domain knowledge that the NHS needs to deliver digitally-enabled transformation. As Client Engagement Director, I’m confident my own experience and expertise will contribute to SmartCo’s capabilities by bringing new ideas and continuing the work building relationships with NHS clients, as well as working with industry partners old and new.

What excites you about working at SmartCo?

The highlights of my career have always been associated with being part of a team dedicated to supplying the NHS with the best technology, services and support. SmartCo is made up a fantastic group of people that I’m excited to have joined. I’ve a reputation for being ‘innovative’ and sometimes doing things differently and that is positively encouraged at SmartCo, so I hope to fit right in. I’ve known some of the founders and senior executives for some time and this gives me the opportunity to further those friendships and make new ones in combination with working together with my colleagues towards collective success.

What’s unique about the company?

SmartCo thrives on being an innovative and flexible partner. We pride ourselves on creating tailored solutions and providing talented and dedicated professionals to address our clients needs. I don’t think anyone else has that mix and as they say in the USA there’s a splash of ‘secret sauce’ applied at SmartCo.

What do you enjoy doing in your spare time?

I used to play Rugby at a reasonable level but that was before ‘old age and injury’ caught up with me. Now I’m an avid fan but still miss being active in the sport. I spend as much time with my family as I can and enjoy the Hertfordshire countryside with my wife and two Golden Retrievers.

I’m also a keen motorsport enthusiast and regularly take part in Quad biking, 4×4 Cross Country events and race days. My fantasy would be to drive an Aston Martin Vantage down some of the fastest roads in Europe but I think that will remain just a dream for now (I’d have to buy an Aston for a start!)
